Description
Cardigan Bay Blue Healing Sea was originally painted purposely as a gift to a friend suffering with a terminal illness. Blue is the spiritual colour for healing. The painting was made with ultramarine blue acrylic paint on a small panel. No mediums accept water were used and only one brush was employed.
This blue scene was painted near Poppit Sands in Ceredigion, West Wales. It is the beach near Cardigan town and close to St. Dogmaels. The sea is the Irish Sea and in this location it has particularly dangerous in-coming tides. It is quite easy to become cut off on the sands if you do not watch how quickly the tide comes in. And you do not plan a sensible escape route in advance.
As you can see in the painting the tide was rapidly encroaching on my place of painting. It was coming over the rocks between me on the beach and the sea. As an aside and as a point of interest, many of the rocks can clearly be seen for real as petrified trees although I have not detailed this within my painting. You can still see and count the cellular rings and some still show their bark. It’s all fascinating on Poppit sands.
The headland shown in the background is towards Gwbert, Mwnt and Aberporth.
I had to finish the painting after its initial layers back in my studio a few miles away; as I did not want to get cut off and subsequently needed to be rescued by the coast guard.
This area was chosen as an experiment to determine whether a painting could capture healing energies with perhaps a homeopathic effect and thus cancelling some aspects of an illness and especially emotional ones.
My friend had described that the ill effects of his illness seemed to come over in waves and which made him feel more depressed than usual. He said that this painting certainly helped to calm his mind and it further allowed him to reflect on his life with a joyous result. He thought that the painting did have mysterious healing energies that were imparted invisibly from it.
